Situated in Chapel Allerton, the Olive Tree is a friendly, family-run restaurant. Located on Harrogate Road next to Further North on Short Lane, this branch is one of three Olive Trees that have grown as a result of reputation and a base of regular diners. Established in 1982 George and Vasoulla look after the day to day running’s of the restaurant where you will be likely to find George in the kitchen and Vasoulla at front of house polishing their already talented team.

George is a self-taught chef and recognises his mother-in-law as one of his most important culinary influences. He holds the philosophy of ‘real ingredients cooked by real people’ very close to his heart and that is why you see so many dishes that are both authentic and unique to the Olive Tree and certainly dishes you will not find in chain restaurants.

Having won many accolades, being in the Good Food guide for years and picking up ‘The Best Mediterranean Restaurant’ 2005/06, The Olive Tree Chapel Allerton is an excellent choice for diners looking for a relaxing meal in great company. On the menu you will find classic Greek dishes such as Keftedes, a mixture of minced lamb and potatoes in breadcrumbs with diced onions and herbs finished with a fresh piquant tomato sauce; Mixed Souvlaki, a delish Greek fast food dish of meat or vegetable skewers served with pittas and Moussakka, a delicious dish of layered aubergines with minced lamb or veg. All of the choices on the menu are superb but the most highly recommended dish for a true taste of Greece is one of the Meze’s available as a meat, seafood or vegetarian option.

The Olive Tree’s authentic home cooking and friendly and passionate staff make this venue a must-visit when you are in Leeds.

Overall

The atmosphere was really nice and the service attentive, though a little hasty to make us order just after we arrived. The food was good, though my friend's musaka was much better choice than the fish and seafood platter which was generous in size, but somehow thrown together without the necessary attention, and some of the fish was not particularly nice. Overall a good experience though a little expensive (just short of £70 for a meal for two and a bottle of wine) for what you get.
