Mogal-E-Azam is one of Nottingham’s finest Indian restaurants. Located behind the Royal Theatre, the venue often entertains the stars of the various shows performed there. Less than 200 yards from the Royal Centre tram stop and the Nottingham Trent University city campus, it’s perfect for students and their parents, business men and women, visitors and locals alike.
Welcomed by the rich and intense aroma from the kitchen’s, Mogal E-Azam is an inviting restaurant the showcases the very best Indian cuisine in warm and colourful surroundings. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with authentic Indian ornaments and a rich colour scheme featuring deep reds and luxurious gold. The authenticity is further accentuated by the waiters who are dressed in traditional attire. The Classical Indian music adds to the uplifting and buzzing atmosphere that Mogal-E -Azam have crafted for their always greeted and appreciated customers.
Mogal-E-Azam opened in 1977 and as a family-run restaurant, the owner prides himself on the use of his mother’s authentic recipes, distinguishable from the usual fare on offer in an Indian restaurant by the fresh and rich flavours. As one of the only Indian restaurants in Nottingham to use a traditional Tandoor oven made from genuine Indian clay. The oven is said to enhance and enrich the flavours of the cuisine and we’ll let you be the judge of that. With classically popular curry dishes such as Biryani, Rogan Josh, Dopiaza and Korma, all of which are available with a selection of different meats or a vegetarian option. The real stars come in the form of the house specialities which features dishes such as curry fish, a dish packed with mackerel, monk fish, salmon, cod and either halibut or fresh tuna fried with green chillies, onion, garlic and coriander; and Akbari lamb tikka cooked with lean lamb with mushrooms and mango.
Able to seat up to 300 people and with a private hire function room available upstairs, Mogal-E-Azam is perfect for large parties and celebrations all the way down to couples looking for a delicious meal for two. Personally, I can't fault this restaurant. It maintains the high standards it has set down the years.
The food was excellent and plentiful and the service was attentive without being overpowering. The meal was good value and the Go Dine discount helped to lower the price. The restaurant still retains the traditional, authentic charm.

I visited Mogal e Azam following many reviews and recommendations and I must say, from the start, the staff was very inviting and friendly. I booked the meal for ten of us and they were very accommodating. Wine flowing nicely, food was great and tasty and was not swimming in grease like other Indian restaurants previously been to. Food presented to our plates very well and all food came out hot. Only one problem with a meal is that one dish came with nuts after requesting no nuts. This was swiftly dealt with. Staff were having a laugh and joke and nothing appeared to be too much bother for them to do anything. Second problem was with the bill. This was an easy oversight as the restaurant was busy and we had paid a deposit prior to our arrival and they forgot to deduct off bill. Again this was swiftly dealt with. Great all round meal although only downside was I was expecting the curry to be hotter than what it was and therefore found it to be mild, ambience was just right, great atmosphere and Christmas spirit. Pricing very reasonable. Bill came to about £250 for 11 of us and a lot of alcohol consumed (about 15 bottles wine). Highly recommend to anyone.

Me and my wife had a very enjoyable meal. It was a belated valentines day night out. The manager even came and spoke to us during our meal. Very friendly staff and very reasonably priced. We had 4 popadoms, pickle tray, a portion of rice between us, a main course, bacardi and coke for the wife, and I had a glass of wine. Total... £30.15

A lovely meal with excellent service. The ambience would have been better if it had been busier but it was a quiet Sunday lunchtime.
