Maiyango European restaurant in Leicester is easily one of the best restaurants that they city has to offer. Located on St Nicholas Place the hotel and restaurant boasts an enviable position close to the main attractions of the city centre including the Highcross shopping centre, cinema and the Curve theatre which is just five minutes’ walk away. A contemporary and quirky dining experience awaits all guests, who are encouraged to enjoy one of the bar’s famous cocktails in the chilled out lounge area before migrating to the tiered dining area. Complete with intimate booths, cleverly created using varying lengths of wood and finished with jewel-toned cushions, pendant lights and drapes, the restaurant is stunning, intimate and completely unique. The tables are laid simply, allowing the food to do the talking. Head Chef Phillip Sharpe is the brains behind the exquisite offerings on the menu. His meticulous attention to detail and rigorous checklist for choosing local producers to supply the restaurant ensure that every dish is a gastronomic delight. His creations are intricate and always beautiful presented, showing off the flavours and textures of every ingredient to its maximum potential. From locally-sourced, slow roasted blade of beef served with chargrill filled wasabi and herb rosti and a wild mushroom jus, to roasted wild halibut with citrus mash, spaghetti vegetables and a lemongrass foam, every item on the dish is cooked and placed on the plate in such a way to celebrate it as an individual flavour and part of a complex culinary creation.

Brilliant, relaxed and informal restaurant. Excellent food, service and staff. 10 out of 10.

Four of us had a lovely meal last night. Atmosphere was good and staff were polite and attentive but not overbearing. The food was lovely as always, although it does always seem to be a very similar menu. I had the vegetarian inspiration for main, which was very nice, but almost identical to the vegetarian inspiration I have had here in the past. A little disappointing, but a lovely meal in general.

We had a lovely 2 course lunch for £16.50 each, amazing value for a fantastic meal. We were really well treated by the staff, in particular the front of restaurant manager - who was very helpful. We were loaded down with Christmas shopping on arrival! It was lacking atomsphere slightly as it was very quiet, but it was a Wednesday afternoon. The booth we were sat in was really cosy though.

I took my partner here for our anniversay and I must say I was very impressed! The cocktails where amazing, I would recommend trying the White Choc Nut Martini. Services was excellent and food as amazing! I had the Goat cheese tart for starters accompanied by Green thai curry with paneer for mains and it was mouth watering! We were also suprised by the small accompliments that we recieved throughout the meal. I would definately recommend this place.

A beautiful restaurant that is geared up towards the younger generation I think. A stones throw from the main shopping area of Leicester we popped in with our shopping bags for a quick lunch especially given the set menu. Didnt end up going back to the shops, had a fab meal and some amazing cocktails listening to funky music. Same again next week I think!!
