Situated on Braunstone Gate, an area in Leicester city centre that is renowned for its thriving nightlife, is the retro-chic Loaf bar and restaurant. Located just off Narborough Road, it is just a seven minute walk from the De Montfort University campus, making the stretch a popular destination for students and young professionals.
The Loaf has been owned and managed by Paul Draper for over 10 years and he has carefully crafted a venue that offers all visitors a unique and effortlessly cool place to sit and watch the world go by. The bar area is packed with an eclectic combination of old and new fixtures and fittings which include some beautiful art works from the students at De Montfort University and quirky touches such as the fully functioning, 70’s Kit-Kat machine. The restaurant upstairs has a café ambience and offers relaxed, informal dining, whilst downstairs offers a slightly more formal scene. The gentle Jazz music enhances atmosphere and makes the venue a peaceful, yet vibrant bar and restaurant to chill out in.
The food on offer is good, honest, British cuisine sourced from local suppliers where possible and promises to be an excellent feast for diners. You can expect to enjoy dishes such as West Country pork, smoked bacon, shallots, apples, leeks, Somerset cider and sage pie with gravy and mashed potato, vegan three bean chilli served with basmati rice and homemade tortilla chips, and classic beer-battered fish and chips with peas and tartar sauce. All dishes are very reasonably priced and are packed full of flavour and character.
The Loaf bar and restaurant in Leicester is perfect for those looking for a casual and trendy place to enjoy a delicious meal or a few drinks. With superb offers on during the week, there is no excuse not to take a few hours out of your day to relax in this trendy bar and restaurant.

Food and service were great. Ambience was lacking as there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant.

Food was ok this evening - sausage and mash was just ok, prawna and chilli noodles was lovely, garlic bread was ok....apparently the sticky toffee pud was fab!

Good, reasonably priced food and wine in an atmosphere where we could all chat comfortably.

Great Christmas meal with the girls. Food is fantastic value for money. Highly recommended for a reasonably priced meal!

We enjoyed a three course meal, with nice wine and very good service. The restaurant wasn't busy, despite it being a Friday night but the busy bar provided a good atmosphere.
We were particularly impressed by the cheese and biscuits for 2 to share as a pudding, which was huge. We didn't manage to finish it between 4 of us!
We were left to continue having drinks at our table until the bar had closed, and we still didn't feel rushed out when we left at 11.30pm. Good value meal, in a relaxed atmosphere. I would go again.

The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the food wad lovely. The only gripe I have really is that some of the food on the menu was not available on the night and the menu and choice of food is limiting anyway.

Very good value on Wednesday night, far better than the other places in the area selling beer and a burger! See you soon
