Situated in the city quarter of Hockley opposite Brownes and next to the Market Bar, is The Larder on Goosegate. Its close proximity to the Broadway Arts Cinema as well as an abundance of boutique shops and cafes, the Larder is the perfect venue to visit if you need to recharge after a days’ shopping, have a quick bite to eat before going to the theatre, or to catch up with friends.
Housed within a Grade II, Victorian, listed building which was the former home of a small herbalist’s shop that grew to become the pharmaceutical giants Boots, the Larder on Goosegate elegant yet unpretentious and steeped in history. Proprietors Ewan and Kate McFarlane have done a fantastic job converting this herbologists shop in to the elegant and relaxed restaurant that it is today. With full length windows lining the walls and a fresh, natural colour palette featuring muted turquoises, creams and chocolates, it is bright, airy, and a real pleasure to spend time in.
The Larder On Goosegate team is passionate about sourcing excellent local produce and the recipes are designed to show them off to best effect. Much of their meat is reared and butchered locally by a network of small farmers so that it has travelled no more than 30 miles from field to plate. Details of all the suppliers are given on the menu, allowing you to observe exactly where your food has come from.
Classic British dishes made with the very best, locally sourced ingredients are The Larder on Goosegate’s speciality. On the ever changing, seasonally-inspired menu you are likely to come across dishes such as Belly Pork served with roasted apple, champ, spring onions and a cider gravy, Mushroom Tart with a hazelnut and parsley pesto sauce, and Grilled Plaice with a sorrel and cockle sauce, samphire and crushed Jersey Royals. The Larder have also gained a reputation for their exceptional steaks; all of their beef is sourced from 100%, grass-fed, suckler herd Aberdeen Angus that is matured on the bone for a minimum of 28 days for maximum flavour. The Larder ensure that all cattle are reared to exacting welfare standards, ensuring their cows have a healthy, happy life. With a good selection of vegetarian dishes that go beyond the typical vegetarian lasagne, there is truly something for everyone.
Visiting The Larder on Goosegate, Nottingham, is highly recommended for those who love good food and are looking for a relaxed venue where you are allowed time to savour each mouthful.

As always, good food & service. Decent wine list & plenty of choice from the menu.
Rory Holland – 02/02/2012
Excellent food and service. We had the set menu which is something like £15 for 3 courses. I had the mussels and the steak, and I can strongly recommend both.

Early Bird Menu very good - varied choices. Would like to see Cheese and Biscuits on the desserts though (for Early Bird).

First time visitor to the Larder on Goosegate.
The venue was very classy with a nice ambience, the food was of a very good quality, appearence and taste. The staff were very welcoming, attentive and pleasent. We ordered from the pre theatre menu which was exceptional value for the quality of the food. We unfortunately had to leave to see the concert but would have happily stayed longer, we would recommend this restaurant and would not hesitate visiting again.

I really liked this restaurant as the food was hearty and used a lot of fresh produce. Would go again. Shame they don't have wheelchair access for one of my relatives.

Have been to the Larder several times and its been great. This time however the service really let it down.
Arrived at 8.00, by 8.30 we still hadn't ordered the food. When the waitress did attend us she was nice, but we hardly saw her. She was taking our desert order at 10.20, at that point i just wanted to leave. When we did get the bill and pay, we were waiting for her to collect, we waited so long we decided to leave the money on the table, get up, find where they had put our coats, collect them and leave. They really didn't seem to care.
Shame the food is decent - but better customer service would make all the difference.
Don't think I'll be going back again.

Food was brilliant, great ambience and the staff were really helpful. Overall, excellent.

Delicious reasonably-priced food, particularly the set menu. A lovely room, attractively decorated and lit. Friendly attentive staff, but we had to wait a little longer than we'd liked to order as there was only one lady taking orders when we were seated. Ladies' toilets offered hand cream and were decorated with jars of fresh flowers. Will definitely be going again.

Limited menu, but very fresh produce. Service polite, but slow.

The meal I had was absolutely delicious, and the whole menu sounded like a great testament to British food. The restaurant itself was beautiful and I would recommend a seat by the window because I loved being able to see what was happening in the street below. Can't wait to visit this restaurant again in the near future!

The Larder on Goosegate is an exceptional restaurant, where the quality of food and service are priced very reasonably. We had the Skate cheeks and Ham terrine to start, followed by Steak and Pork Belly mains, all of which were delicious. The cheese board and Panacota to finish were also very tasty. The Rose Merlot we had to accompany the meal was divine. An exceptional night out at a restaurant I would recommend to anyone.....even more so with the 15% discount.

I had scallops for starter and the piquot steak followed by the Eaton mess and every mouthful was amazing. The food is always top quality and they are always accomodating where possible.

An outstanding evening out, the service was excellent and neither too fast or too slow. The food was excellently cooked and presented and the atmosphere was lovely. Heartily recommended if you're looking for a special meal out.

Lovely food - very good quality. Great service, professional and welcoming. Staff knowledgable on the food. Enjoyed the style of the restaurant, had massive windows to people watch. Only negative point is we only recieved 10% discount rather than the 15%. Was going to bring it up, but wasn't sure what the right amount of discount we got(wasn't sure if it was 10% or 15%). Make sure you get the right discount!

Jayne Childs – 04/09/2008
Excellent value with great food. We can't rate the service highly enough, the staff are so good! The ambience got a 9 because it was really hot up there, with no opening windows.
All in all a great night out.
