Friars Steakhouse is a small, family-run restaurant situated on the lively Friar Gate, an area that is renowned for its quality restaurants and bars. It is within the Cathedral Quarter of Derby city centre and is just up from the Derby City Church and the Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

Inside, the restaurant benefits from exposed brick walls, wooden floors and tables and soft lighting creating a rustic atmosphere and the perfect setting for tucking in to some prime steak. Adorning the wall is the restaurants House Record for the largest steak eaten to date which currently stands at a whopping 75oz!

On the menu you will, of course, find a fantastic selection of steaks including the juicy ribeye, tender fillet and flavoursome rump just to name a few. One of the dishes that comes highly recommended is the Sizzling Pepper Steak Platter which comes served on a cast iron skillet with a spicy black pepper sauce. With a full range of steaks from finest fillet to the wholesome 32oz rump steak, and even dishes for vegetarians, Friar’s is a venue that can cater for everyone’s tastes and preferences.

Friars is the place for meat eaters that are looking for fine, locally produced steaks and sides. The pleasant rustic surroundings coupled with the friendly, relaxing atmosphere and exceptional service make it a real pleasure to dine here. With a full range of steaks from finest fillet to the wholesome 32oz rump steak, and even dishes for vegetarians, Friar’s is a venue that can cater for everyone’s tastes and preferences.

Overall

We went for the early bird two course menu which was great value. The 16oz rump steak was cooked to my liking. Found the staff very friendly. Ambience a bit stark, but will go back again that's for sure.

Overall

Food was very nice. Staff were pleasant. Little bit dissappointed with the decor etc, felt a little bit plain and more of a cafe bar than a restaurant. Would definitely go again but probably on a week night.
