On Duncan Street, in the heart of Leeds city centre, you will find a restaurant that has found a place firmly in the hearts of residents and visitors to the city alike. Distrikt is an independent restaurant that, after opening in 2009 to rave reviews, is high on the list of many foodie’s ‘to visit’ lists thanks to its experimental menus and relaxed styling.
Surrounded by an array of bars and nightclubs, Distrikt is the perfect base from which to enjoy a great night out in Leeds or, if you don’t fancy braving the main strip, you can continue your festivities in the basement where you can sip cocktails in one of the booths whilst listening to the chilled out disco music that plays in the background throughout the day and well into the evenings.
The menu is a unique mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern tapas, drawing inspiration from a number of countries to create an eclectic and exciting menu that changes on a regular basis. Sharing plates are an ideal way for couples to enjoy lunch or dinner with charcuterie, vegetable and seafood menus offering the perfect entrée. When available the Lamb kofta with dried fruit couscous and Sticky caraway short ribs are both delicious and lead well into a Jack Daniels Banana in cream. The staff are on hand to guide you in choosing the perfect selection of dishes for your tastes as well as advising on how many plates to order for you and your friends.
Alongside their delicious tapas plates, Distrikt also offer a unique ‘Foraged’ menu where all of the ingredients have been foraged from the Yorkshire countryside; an effort that even the top rated restaurants don’t attempt. This menu changes frequently to reflect seasonal and availability but when you can, the carpaccio of Yorkshire beef with beetroot and fennel slaw, a wild lovage puree and crisps and the root vegetable stuffed field mushrooms with wild watercress and manchego come highly recommended.
