My only problem with this restaurant is that the meat is Halal. I personally do not hold with this practice so out of principle would not eat any of the meat dishes - this very much restricted the menu for me - only a few fish dishes, vegetarian and one meat dish (lamb Keema). Unfortunately we will not be returning which is a shame as the staff were really welcoming and attentive. For those who have no issues with this practice then I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Excellent as ever - still my favourite place for curry.

Lovely food at Desi Downtown and very good value for money.

    Good food, reasonably priced.

Excellent food, great value, and good service at Desi Downtown, well worth a visit!

Excellent meal, very good value. Staff friendly and helpful. Desi Downtown is possibly my favourite place for a curry in the city.

Visited on a busy Saturday night so service was a little rushed but bearing this in mind all of our food orders were correct, everything was served promptly and was piping hot. Portions are extremely generous and it's great value for money. Will be going again.

We say…

Situated in Hockley in Nottingham, Desi Downtown Indian restaurant is destined to follow the success of sister restaurants Simla and Desi Express. Just around the corner from destinations such as the Capital FM Arena and restaurants such as The Larder on Goosegate, Eviva Taverna and The Lanterns, Desi Downtown is in good company.

The Desi branch is similar to its siblings in that the décor is kept stylish and clean and avoids any over the top flourishes that can make an Indian restaurant feel dated and dark. Instead, Desi Downtown features chic white walls with a vibrant feature wall, with relaxed low lighting paired with light wooden furniture and simple place settings. The atmosphere is one of intimacy yet the venue maintains a modern and fresh feel whilst providing entertainment and drama thanks to the open kitchen where guests are able to watch the skilled chefs create the delicious dishes from scratch.

Brothers Inti and Jack who form the collective brain behind the Desi and Simla restaurants have kept their key principle throughout each restaurant the same and refuse to serve anything other than high quality ingredients cooked using authentic, traditional, methods. On the menu you will find a whole host of popular Indian dishes such as pasanda gosht packed with peppers, onions and tomatoes garnished with coriander and lamb bhoti as well as more unusual items such as khatta mittah murgh, a chicken dish prepared with peppers onions and tomatoes in a sweet and sour sauce, and zaffrani fish which sees cod topped with a rich saffron and cream sauce.

Desi Downtown in Nottingham has the perfect lively atmosphere for larger group bookings or couples who are looking to enjoy a vibrant and exciting meal. The staff are friendly and attentive and, if you’re visiting for a special occasion, have a camera that you can request to use and have your photos put up online. A definite must try and welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Nottingham.
