In the heart of Sheffield city centre, on Trippet Lane, you will fail not to be drawn to the bright yellow building nestled in amongst the dull brick. This little slice of sunshine is known as Cubana Tapas and it is an unstoppable force that has firmly placed itself on the Sheffield food map.
Encouraging a relaxed and informal dining style, Cubana Tapas is all about chilling out and forgetting the stress of a long day. With live music every night, diners are always greeted with a lively atmosphere and every evening is guaranteed to be a different experience. The restaurant itself is intimate and cosy with rustic wooden tables, wall murals, candles and fairy lights all of which combine to create an absolute haven from the chaos of the city centre streets.
Chilean Head Chef, Fabian Cruz, has headed the kitchen at Cubana since the restaurant opened its doors in 2004 and, with the wealth of experience Fabian brought with him, the restaurant has enjoyed a fabulous reputation ever since. The menu on offer is vibrant, exciting and ever-expanding. Initially offering diners a selection of Cuban and Latin-American tapas, the restaurant have further diversified and enhanced their menu by adding dishes that have Spanish influences. Taking away the stress and uncertainty that can occur when choosing a single main course, Cubana encourages sharing and social interaction and is highly popular with couples and larger groups who order several plates and sample a little of each. The staff are on hand to advise you of how many dishes to order depending on your party size and hunger levels.
The hot tapas section of the menu includes dishes such as Cordero, a traditional Chilean dish of shoulder of braised lamb cooked in vegetable stock, fresh thyme and white time; and jamon y queso de cebra, an oven-baked basket of Serrano ham topped with goats cheese and served with mixed vegetables. The style of cuisine also lends itself very well to vegetarian and seafood lovers with dishes such as Patatas dulces y pimientos, roasted sweet potatoes and red pepper with a hint of chilli, garlic and herbs; or Langostinos al ajillo, king prawns sautéed in olive oil, garlic and white wine.
