A former coaching inn dating back to the 17th century, the Benefield Wheatsheaf is located between the towns of Corby and Oundle and offers spectacular views over Northamptonshire countryside. Now restored as a small and friendly country hotel, it offers excellent food in a historic atmosphere with fire places, exposed brick and beams and traditional exposed stone walls.

The restaurant is to the rear of the hotel in a bright and airy dining room with a relaxing atmosphere that makes the most of the peaceful surroundings, fine locally produced British cuisine and personal, attentive service. David Clipsham has recently joined the Benefield Wheatsheaf as head chef and has a passion for local produce and bringing the best out of the ingredients. He believes in serving ‘good quality, unpretentious food’ and draws on his 27 years of cooking experience to produce tasty and inventive dishes, and a good wine list compliments all dishes on show.

Menus are seasonal, with a changing list of specials so you might find Venison steak with juniper sauce on the menu or perhaps Baked fillet of halibut with a herb crust. During the summer months the menu changes daily due to the abundance of fresh local produce and also features fresh fish and seafood including shellfish platters with crab and lobster, antipasti and fantastic accompanying salads.

Diners can eat in The Garden Room which is the ideal venue for a special occasion, party or celebration meal, but if you are looking for a warm and intimate meal the Snug is for you. It can also be booked for a private dining function seating up to 14 diners.

Families and children are welcome and your group will not be disappointed by what the Benefield Wheatsheaf has to offer.

Overall

had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch with my mother-in-law who is a little bit precise, however not even she could pick a fault in any of the meal or service. My hats off to the staff and chef who managed to make an old lady very happy, thanks guys

The staff are very and the food is very good. I thought the breakfast was excellent - probably the best we have ever had in any hotel. Will definitely return and recommend to everyone, very good value for money.
