Akbar's Indian restaurant is located in Minerva House on Greek Street in the heart of Leeds city centre. It is one of two Akbar offerings in Leeds and should not be confused with the Akbar’s in Eastgate as they both offer a different atmosphere and different specials. The Akbar’s brand dates back to 1988 when young entrepreneur Shabir Hussain decided he was going to open his own restaurant. Since then the brand has spread across the North with nine other restaurants opening between 1999 and 2009.
Chief Manager Shabir Hussain oversees every aspect of his business and he personally designs each restaurant himself. Akbar’s on Greek Street is framed by an impressive entrance of stone pillars that leads into the typical Akbar’s atmosphere of soft lighting, waterfall LED lights and leather chairs. The unique feature for Greek Street is the open kitchen which brings the food right into the forefront of the dining experience and adds some excitement as you see the chefs preparing your food in front of your eyes.
The food at Akbar’s has a good reputation and as well as finding classics such as Dopiaza, Korma and Madras there are specialities that you will only find in Greek Street such as the spicy Roshan-Lal and Balti Lazeez. As well as this, a ‘Chef’s Challenge’ is also on offer and the ever popular ‘Handi of the day’ is available for those who really want to experience Indian home cooking at its finest.
