I enjoyed a fantastic fish dish with lime foam and a side of beans. My partner had a chicken and chorizo dish with potatoes - both of which were very good. Our desserts were a crème caramel with a delicious sauce and very chocolaty dessert, which was a bit of a show stopper! Service is very efficient and the atmosphere was calm and refined.

I really like it here. Beautiful food, lovely waiting staff and amazing value.
Ambience: Downstairs is probably best for a relaxed atmosphere although upstairs seems right for a mid-shopping lunch!

First time at 1877, we thought the upstairs room was too clinical and lacked ambience. The seating although comfortable was too low and would benefit with proper dining chairs. The soup was too salty but the mains good (excellent lamb).

On the good side, the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the staff really know what they are doing and are extremely attentive. The quality of the food is excellent, especially the cheese and there is a comprehensive and well chosen wine list. The problem is that the portions are 'fashionably small'. My first course of asparagus and poached egg comprised about three thin spears (cut into 2inch sticks so hard to say exactly) and the smallest egg I've ever seen. This does not compare well with the week before when I'd had asparagus in a smart hotel in Stamford which also sourced its food locally where I had been served with 6-7 good sized spears. Similarly my husband's crab salad was lacking in crab. We normally only eat a starter and main course, but this time had a dessert because the first two courses left us feeling we needed more.

We had a really lovely meal here. The atmosphere was great (we were downstairs- which was I think extra nice).
The food was spot on and also was very pretty, but not just for the sake of it. It actually made you gasp a bit when they brought it out, which added to the feeling of it being a bit special. It was also excellent value for money.
We were there on a Sunday lunch time and it was Mother's day, so the service was a little slow, but the staff made up for it- they actually had personality, which added to the relaxed feeling of the place.
I will definitely return, it was very satisfying!

Very friendly and efficient staff. A little draughty by the front door but overall a fantastic night out and at such a good price for the fixed menu. Will be back.
