Originally built in 1573, this Grade II listed Old Grammar School building has been beautifully refurbished and is now the atmospheric home to 1573 Restaurant and Bar. This modern and fresh restaurant presents a beautiful contradiction to the building, one of the oldest schoolhouses in England, and is based in the popular Highcross area in Leicester City Centre with an outdoor terrace ideal for people-watching.
The food on offer at 1573 demonstrates a passion for the best and most seasonal local produce, with steaks sourced from ethical UK farms and dry aged for 21-28 days, and is complemented by an array of fine wines and champagnes. Classic dishes include char grilled steaks, grilled organic Shetland salmon steak with seasoned roasted cherry tomatoes and a 27oz T-Bone steak served with chunky chips. Vegetarian dishes are imaginative, with Grilled Paneer and mushroom skewers and couscous salad served with chips and peppercorn sauce almost tempting the carnivores away from the steaks. Choose from a variety of home-made sauces to add piquancy to your meal.
With a selection of light bites for lunch, such as burgers, salads and baguettes, daily specials, a well thought out children’s menu and a very good value Sunday roast on offer, 1573 has something for everyone to enjoy in a truly characteristic venue. Enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere with stone walls and mullioned windows inside the restaurant or sit outside on the terrace on sunny summer days enjoying drinks and meals and feel like you’re on holiday.
